Perfect Timing

Yesterday was an unusual morning. I left for work earlier than usual. It was only about 8.05am when I left my house to drop off some "No Bribes" stickers at my former head office. I was done in less than 5 minutes.

Then as I drove to work, I realised why it was not usual: I would usually arrive at my office within fourty minutes of departure. But the traffic at Puchong was unusually bad yesterday. It was also unusually smooth the two days before. If I had decided to leave the usual time of 8.20am, or based on those past two smooth traffic days' experience, I would have been late for work. But thankfully, I arrived just in time about 9.00am.

Today, however, I left for work the latest since I started work the first work day of the year. I left at 8.30am but still arrived at work on time!

These are one good example of God's timing. He's just perfect. I couldn't have known of the situation ahead of time. And it couldn't have been a mere coincidence because I had an unusual feeling. Furthermore, I felt that eating just oats was sufficient yesterday morning (I usually have heavy breakfast, of which oats is about halfthe total volume.)

To me, God works in small and everyday moments. He also works big and special ways. If I failed to recognise His handiwork in the minute detail, then how am I to recognise his works in the bigger picture? It is the small individual pieces that make up a larger jigsaw puzzle. And I wouldn't trade this wonderful personal experience for anything else in God's wonderful Kingdom.

Prophecy

I went to a drama reading just now as I was asked to help since I availed myself to serve God in whatever area(s) He choose(s). I was told that I the available parts were either Jesus or Peter.

As the three scripts were passed out, we were told which one(s) we would likely be assigned to. Immediately I glanced through my assignment and noticed that Peter's role was easy - only a handful of words in two separate lines!

When we came to this script (after reading through the other two lighter ones), I was told to take the role of Jesus. I immediately complained that Jesus had so much to say, though I hadn't really read all three-pages of the script. I had wanted Peter's role.

As I read Jesus' words, I was dummbfounded. His first words were based on Isaiah 61:1-4, part of a passage given to me at a counseling session a few years ago. These words of God gave me hope and a future: something to look forward to for God to work in my life. They still do.

Once again I realised that God indeed do speak, and He spoke to me when I least expected Him to: at a drama script reading. I then gladly accepted the many words I may have to memorise, even though the role have not been confirmed as mine.

So, it now doesn't really matter to me whether I get to be Jesus or Peter or nobody. God has spoken, and I will obey. I am available, and God can (I'm sure He will!) use me as He wish, for He knows completely what He destined me for. His perfect plan and timing speaks volumes of His greatness and love towards me. From eternity to eternity, He has me in His mind in everything He does.

I'm glad to be able play a part, any part, big or small, in His drama of life. To Him be all glory. Amen and amen!

Connecting People.

Have you been on the RapidKL LRT (formerly known as PutraLRT) lately? A friend convinced me to go for the New Year Countdown at KLCC on 31 December 2005. So we took the LRT from Taman Jaya at about 9.30pm.

There weren't many people onboard but they seem to be using Nokia handphones because of the familiar polyphonic ringing tones. I thought the newer models had louder speakers because the rings were quite loud.

I then realized that it weren't the phones which were ringing. It was the public address system!

Wow! Some people at Nokia were creative enough to convince RapidKL to reproduce their messaging system. Nokia's tagline was announced at almost every stop. It's more than just media influence. It has become brainwashing!

This led me to ponder: are God's people creative? I'm sure we are. But how are we to be good stewards of our God-given creative talent, especially in leading the masses into God' Kimgdom?

This is my first time observing such a massive public event up close and personal. I usually don't even watch it on TV. A friend who brought me here commented on the crowd which never stops walking by: can you imagine the eternal destiny of this crowd?

George Barna, in one of his book, calculated that the church has hundreds of billions of dollars at its disposal. But how is this resource used? Most unfortunately, in erecting bigger and supposedly better buildings which are but used only occasionally, usually once a week. What a waste.

Wouldn't it be better to trailblaze and set the standard for effecting positive life-change through the media? I'm sure that, with all the kingdom resources that God has given us, and with God's enabling and strategic direction, we can up the ante for Nokia and all secular companies to beat. Now wouldn't that be a challenge for the New Year?

Messiah. Connecting People... To God.
